Searching her face…

Today I went over to my parent’s house as usual after I got off work.  My mom was sitting on the couch looking very fatigue.  She said she didn’t sleep much last night… well she hasn’t slept much for the past few nights.  I’m sure it’s getting to her.  Her appointment to see the Liver Specialist (finally!) is on Monday.  Who knows what the diagnosis or prognosis or treatment will be.  I think that may be weighing on her mind. But other than the lack of sleep, she is fine.  She hasn’t been in any pain since she was tapped and her back is feeling a lil better.

While I was there I started flipping the channels to see what we could watch for entertainment.  I came across my favorite show, Grey’s Anatomy.  We began to watch an  episode and in that one there was a patient who was in the hospital awaiting a heart transplant.  He expressed his anger and frustration with what he is going through, how his body has change, how he can’t recognize himself in the mirror, how he’s a strong man stuck in a deteriorating body and so on.  I couldn’t help but think my mom was thinking the same thing.  I looked at her to see if she would react to seeing this person/actor express his feelings about a transplant and how he’s feeling emotionally.  I didn’t see a reaction.  I’m hoping she’s not comparing herself with any of the people we saw on this show. There was another case where a woman was pregnant and had been in a car crash.  They showed the operation to try to fix her organs and keep the fetus alive in the process.  Turns out the woman died but they cut her open to take out the baby and it survived.   I felt like I should’ve change the channel because this may have scared her about transplant and getting operated on but then again, why should I?  We can’t hide from what’s going on in our lives, we must face it and deal with it the best we can.  I continued to talk to her throughout this show and she looked at it as a show and not real life.  She was not afraid at all.  She’s a strong woman and show like this obviously won’t bring her down.
